Slow brains

It’s been a slow brains weekend. Lots of blank staring on my part.

1. I caught up on Cadmium 2 podcasts this weekend. I was really taken with their description and review of Dead Set — the zombie horror film set in a filming of Big Brother. I like the idea, I like the meta commentary, and I loved the guys’ description of the show. Shall be trying to rent that, if it’s available in a format I can watch.

2. I’ve been re-reading Lois Bujold’s books. I do love the Chalion books — Curse of Chalion and Paladin of Souls. Both books are like homing missiles on the themes that interest me — namely, how does one go on after failure? Caz and Ista both have come out thee other side of the ruins of the lives they meant to have. Which leaves them with . . . . Well, “nothing,” is what they think. What it leaves them with is experience and wisdom and charity and will, it leaves them whole people who have no further use for lying to themselves. I rather hope there’s a way to become that sort of person without having to lose everything in one’s life, first.

3. I’m ordering a few odds and ends off of the internet — books I know I used to have but cannot now find (nor remember to whom I loaned them,) replacements for headphones, etc. The only drawback to this is that I get lured by other, unrelated items suggested to me by Amazon. Curses.
