1. I am trying to remember to put one space after a period instead of two. I reset the grammar-check on Word to alert me to this error, and it’s driving me crazy. This is partly due to the changing standards, but also partly due to an essay I read about dyslexia accessibility. Oddly enough, three of the six things listed as making text more difficult for those with dyslexia or other text-based challenges are things that make reading easier for me. Serif fonts, two spaces after sentences, and italics for emphasis.
2. Yesterday I sent my comics portfolio out to editors. I expect that nothing will come of this. It’s my first try at getting hired and getting hired as a writer is difficult. But regardless of whether I get hired to write comics or not, I’m doing my best to make the effort.
I want to thank the generous editors, C.B. Cebulski in particular, for the advice they freely give out regarding portfolio submissions. The sense I have is that these people really want new talent to succeed, they want the portfolios to be the best possible. That makes sense to me — I expect that it not only makes them happy to find good talent, but it makes their job easier if the submissions are in a format they can legally review!
So, thank you, everyone who helped with this, both friends and family who hear me nattering on about cover letters, and the editors and publishers whose advice has proved invaluable.
