First day of autumn

1. It’s grey and drizzling today — typical for autumn in Minnesota.

2. My mother is visiting this week for M’s birthday, which is lovely.

3. We went to the Mill City Museum yesterday. Every time I go I find something else that makes me sniffle, from the audio recording of the mill workers talking about how they cried when the plant shut down, to the diary excerpts of the farmer’s wife when she moved out to barren North Dakota to farm wheat, to the thank-you letters from Belgium families in 1914 to Minnesota for the relief wheat shipments. History is made by people living their lives. You’re making history today, right now, reading this.

4. Today I go to the doctor and have her look at my wrist, whee.
