We had a lovely Christmas.

1. The evening with N’s family was nice, with excellent food and good company. And the passel of children all played together without violating the house rules or brawling. WIKTORY.

2. We have Set A Few Precedents. Namely, that the kids can watch a dvd at eight in the morning, provided that dvd is Singing in the Rain. I am certain, in my bones, that they will remember this precedent next Christmas.

3. Everyone got some things they were truly excited to receive.

4. We saw The Hobbit! We all enjoyed it. J and I agreed that the first hour was a bit long, and that we think a few minutes of panoramic vistas of New Zealand could have been trimmed. And K fell asleep somewhere during the last half-hour. But! We all enjoyed it. And M had exactly the desired reaction — every time something familiar showed up on the screen, he pointed at it and exclaimed, “Gollum!” or, “Rivendell!” or, “the elf-lady!” So that worked well.

Now, however, it’s back to reality-land. Today the kids have to do school, and finish their chores, and I have to go to the grocery store, and life returns to its usual pace.

Still no circus classes, though, not until after the New Year. 🙂

  1. We took my older niece to “The Hobbit” (the younger hasn’t read the book yet/wasn’t interested) and it was overall a little too long and fighty for her but she just started writhing with glee when Gollum came on. There’s something about that character….

  2. @Caroline And, to my surprise, both my kids found the riddle scene FUNNY, which I never have in my entire life.

  3. Paige LOVES the riddle scene, though I’m not sure if it’s so much about humor as about wordplay and cleverness. She adores the 30 white horses one.
