Not as advised

1. A favorite summertime sport in my house is for the kids to put on swimsuits and jump on the trampoline while an adult hoses them off. Instant Home Waterpark.

2. So, WorldCon is showing Disney’s Song of the South? There are worse ideas, certainly. Also, better ideas.

When I was talking this over at home, the point was raised that, frankly, the pervasive and still-unacknowledged institutional racism of LEGO sets is more personally problematic to me than Song of the South. But there’s an obvious culture war going on in SF/F right now, and the cartoon selection at WorldCon is — like it or not — a part of that culture war.

I remember when the Twin Cities had a fandom culture war a few years back. I know what side I was on then, and I know what side I am on now. Change is coming. It’s already here.

3. So the sore hip muscle I’ve been complaining about for two weeks is an inflamed IT band. Rest and ibuprofen are called for. I have been resting for a week and it is driving me crazy.

  1. She whom I live with points out that massage therapists are the kind of people who fix sore IT-Bands.

  2. “the pervasive and still-unacknowledged institutional racism of LEGO sets”

Yeah, what’s with this “everyone has the same skin color and that’s fine” thing? I’m kind of creeped out by anyone who can make the argument that one color can be universal, for skin color, with a straight face.

Or are we talking about something else?
